Louise Goldin

April 8, 2010

I woke up this morning and it actually smelled like spring outside. Love it!

Also loving Louise Goldin… pictures from F. Tape and Goldin’s site. More about the label from NYMAG:

English designer Louise Goldin launched her eponymous knitwear line in 2005, just barely out of grad school. Eschewing traditional silhouettes, the label is known for its short, body-hugging knit dresses, tunics, and swimwear for women. With bright colors, unusual weaves, and futuristic patterns, Louise Goldin employs both natural fabrics like wool and cashmere and synthetic materials like Lurex and metallics.

While you’re here, be sure to check out Boston-based group The Dean’s List. Gotta support acts from the Bean!

Play it Kcoline

June 3, 2009

I am going back to where it all began today… can’t wait! When I look back over the past few years, I’m always flabbergasted (haven’t used that word in a long time!) when I think about all the random decisions, experiences and events that got me to where I am today. It’s refreshing because through it all I have listened to my gut… you know, intuition and all that… it’s funny because when you relinquish yourself to that inner-voice, it never fails you. Even if the immediate result is not what you wanted or expected, I have found that the end result is always just what you need. Yeah, enough of this mushy stuff and on to la moda.

Today’s designer is Kcoline… Born in France, imported to the US in 2002 Kcoline’s clothes are inspired by the streets of NYC. (Wow, I really miss NYC. I have to get back there ASAP.) Materials used are natural and noble as often as possible: silks, cashmere, wool, cotton, linen, or sometimes mixed but always high quality for longevity and a better glow. The garments are mostly one of a kind, like people! I love these playful silhouettes!

Check out Kcoline on Etsy and on MySpace.

By the way, I have been listening to Aventura’s new CD “The Last” and I looove it. Anthony Santos is seriously the sexiest man alive . . . (ok, he may have at least one rival here in Boston . . lol) Anyway, the CD is due out next Tuesday, June 9th and you should definitley download it or pick it up. If you’re in NYC and want to fight a mob of screaming women, I think they’re having a CD signing somewhere in the city… Anyway, I posted the video from their single Por Un Segundo below. Doesn’t Jaslene from ANTM look gorgeous

Nanushka/ Bloc Party

 March 26, 2009

My horoscope was 100% right yesterday. You have no idea! I have to stop reading those things in the morning. Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy!

Hopefully time will be on my side today.

Today’s designer is one of my favorites, Nanushka. Nanushka is the childhood nickname of Hungarian fashion designer Sandra Sanor. Established in 2005, Nanushka’s designs focus not on fashion trends, but in long lasting silhouettes, comfort and functionality combined with a decidedly playful attitude. I absolutely love her designs… especially her Spring/ Summer collection.

I’m also obsessed with Bloc Party’s newest free MP3 release on RCRD LBL so here’s a link to that: Biko (Mogwai Remix)

One to Watch: TCHIBI

by urbansocialite on February 10, 2009

Yesterday was my birthday and I have to say it was one of my favorites. I seriously have the most amazing group of friends here in Boston… to top things off, I reconnected with some of my favorite people from the past (MP, I am still smiling!).

Anyway, instead of getting all mushy and reflective on you, I’ll use this space to write about the creative Brazilian label TCHIBI. Nineteen year old designer Mariana Tchibi discovered fashion as a child while watching her grandmother knitting scarves and sweaters. At age 18 she won the “L’oreal Criando Moda” competition in São Paulo and her career began to take off.

Her style combines modern silhouettes with whimsical/ folky embellishments for a look that is truly unique and inspired! Looking beyond the superficial, Mariana believes fashion can act as a sort of window to your soul. For that reason, her designs are complex and target “strong and determined people.”

In her words, “a fashion creation can come from everywhere, even a bad feeling or a chaotic situation. I believe is very important to a fashion designer to be authentic.”

Check out her myspace page and her page on NJAL.

Also, don’t forget to enter the chickdowntown contest… in this economy,  it’s hard to justify blowing $250 on great clothes…if you win, you’ll have the perfect excuse!

One to Watch: Ferenc Csabay

by urbansocialite on December 22, 2008

Sometimes things that are obviously good are problematic once you peel away the layers. Conversely, sometimes things that are apparently troublesome are “transformational catalysts”  in the making (I know you like that Melka). One of my resolutions this year is to keep an open mind… about everything… I tend to be an “all or nothing” kind of girl, and the more I think about it, the more I realize that most situations have a HUGE grey area that I all but write-off. Strange too because grey is my favorite color (I know, I know, I’ve read all the color-personality profiles... whatever).

Anyway, jumping off my theme of keeping an open mind and thinking outside the box, I thought I’d write about Ferenc Csabay, an up-and-coming designer from Hungary with a unique aesthetic and concentrated ambition.

CSF by Ferenc Csabay is inspired by a classic Anglo Saxon look and inventive Japanese silhouettes. His collection’s motto “wearable, yet unique” is applied to all of his creations. Well known in Hungary, Ferenc’s goal is to expand his collection worldwide. With designs like these, he is certainly headed in the right direction!

Da Rockwilder – Method Man & Redman

I know, I know, now you’re going to have the Da Rockwilder stuck in your head all day!

And today’s designer is most certainly one “Scta” you love. About the brand:

SECTA is a luxury lifestyle brand that represents a way of life, infusing a refined aesthetic with a contemporary intellect. Sophisticated silhouettes, sharp colors and clean lines inspired by functionality are traits embodied by SECTA. Collections evoke modernity and sophistication that details a subtle sexiness, elements that serve as a common ground for the women behind the label.

With an appreciation for culture and quality and inspired by design, Renee Patron’s unconventional childhood that spanned various coasts and a career in creative brand development birthed a style that compliments the Japanese aesthetic of Keiko Yamamoto, who has cultivated a career in fashion retail concepts with numerous fashion companies centering on creativity and modernity. SECTA caters to women who desire to express their beauty and elegance through modern fashion forward concepts.

I know I owe some e-mails and a few product reviews… I’m on it! Have a good day!
